Birthday Trip to Hong Kong

Hello, we are back with another amazing travel itinerary for Hong Kong. In this blog, we are going to be telling you about how you can complete the pre-arrival registration form by yourself, as there is no need for e-visa or on arrival visa for Hong Kong from India. We are also going to list all the places that we visited during our trip and where we stayed.

You must have guessed by now that I was super excited as this was kind of a birthday present from my lovely husband. As it was the last week of November, the weather was neither too cold nor too hot. You can get direct flights from Delhi to Hong Kong and the cheapest one is Indigo – which will take around 5 hours. They do not serve free meals, therefore make sure either you select your meal plan while booking the tickets or fill your tummies with sumptuous food at the airport. One major thing that we follow during our trips is that we have this portable weighing machine and we always weigh our luggage to avoid any hassles at the airport. This is just a precaution we take in order to make the check in formalities smooth.

Whenever you are visiting a foreign country, be sure to make a checklist and keep all the essentials handy. For instance, we forgot to bring our universal adapter and had to spend a fair amount in Hong Kong dollars to acquire it. Since we had no trouble using the charging ports in Malaysia, I guess it just skipped our mind. Another important thing is to carry foreign exchange cards or currency notes. In our case we used bookmyforex and they delivered the Hong Kong dollar at our doorstep. The price was equivalent to what we were getting through agents.

Enough bragging about the tips, let’s quickly move on to our itinerary. We planned this trip for 5 nights/6 days but unfortunately my husband twisted his ankle while landing in Hong Kong so eventually we ended up exploring only one place per day. My advice would be to use public transportation which is affordable as taxi fares are on the higher end. Our stay was booked with ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan which cost us around 10k per night including breakfast. Hotel is located in a very good locality and just a kilometer away from the bus stop and metro station. Another fact is that buses are way less expensive than metro. You can find pretty good restaurants in this locality so we did all this research before booking Ibis due to language constraints. One major thing you can do is ask your hotel to send you the available routes to reach from the airport. We asked this from Ibis and they gave us all the available possibilities and even advised us how much it is going to cost if we take a bus/metro or taxi.

Day 1 – Checked in at the hotel and after resting for a while, we were all set to explore shops and restaurants in our vicinity. Sheung Wan has some good coffee shops and restaurants. Seven eleven is just a km away from Ibis and Starbucks is downstairs. Panda & Son is a very good Italian restaurant which is located right at the entrance.

Day 2 – Sky 100 Observation deck – For the perfect 360 degree view of Hong Kong Island, Victoria Harbour, the Kowloon Peninsula and Tai Mo Shan. Tickets can be purchased online via klook or directly buy them from the counter. Being one of the tallest buildings in Hong Kong, the view from its 100th floor is breathtaking. Post lunch, we were all set to walk and visit Victoria Harbour. This place is usually crowded as the “Symphony of light and sound” show starts at 8 pm sharp. Securing a place would not do any good as people will just block your view with their phones. You can instead book a ferry and enjoy the show with some food and drinks.

Day 3 – The Peak Tram – loved the whole journey, I would seriously suggest taking the tram and experiencing the most amazing view at Sky Terrace 428. There is an option to purchase the Peak Tram+Sky Terrace+Madame Tussauds combo at a healthy discounted rate. The ride up the hill is definitely worth it, some people also hike which was amazing to see.

Day 4 – Disneyland Hong Kong – I cannot even express my excitement, it is always a wonderful experience to visit Disneyland and now with the newly inaugurated “World of Frozen”, HK Disneyland has become the top tourist attraction. We took the leverage of booking an Uber as my husband’s ankle was still healing and we knew we needed to walk a lot on this day. Reaching early has its advantages, as we did not find any long ride queues. We explored all the rides in every park and even stayed till the end to see the Christmas tree getting dolled up.

Day 5 – Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car – This is a very popular and famous bicable gondola lift as it is home to both Po Lin Monastery and Tian Tan Buddha which are very significant tourist attractions. They offer different types of cabins, the one we selected was the crystal cabin as this is fully transparent from all sides and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Day 6 – Back to basics, after having our breakfast we checked out from the hotel and left for the airport.

Let’s talk about the pre arrival registration form that you need to complete before coming to Hong Kong. It was not that complicated so I would suggest you can give it a try on your own if you have all the bookings in place. Just search for pre arrival registration Hong Kong and click on their government website and start the application by clicking on Apply now. They will ask you to agree to the terms and conditions and if you have adobe reader or printer installed on your laptop or computer. At the end you need to take the print out of the confirmed document so either have the adobe reader or printer installed. Now after agreeing to the terms, you need to complete the form, do not make any mistake in spellings and please complete the information as indicated on your passport. At the immigration, they will match the information as mentioned on your passport. Complete all the information correctly, if you have visited any foreign country in the past three years then give out the details. I would advise you to give your hotel booking details as this will improve your chances of getting accepted. Just submit all the details and in the end you will get a confirmation that your application has been submitted successfully and you can print the document. This document is very important and will help you with your immigration process.
